White Stretch Backdrop

A pillow-cover stretch fabric over a frame. Steamed on the frame, squared, then a corner check. A ~4-minute recipe for Hosts.

Standards

Wrinkles

Zero

Steam it before every event. Wrinkles are a bad look.

Sizes are not interchangeable. Check the frame size before you pack.

Zoom on white

In a touch

So the bottom corners don’t go gray.

Booth to backdrop

8 ft

Kit

  • Pillow-cover backdrop frame (7.6 × 7.6, 8 × 7.5 or 8 × 8)
  • White stretch fabric cover that fits that frame
  • Steamer
  • Flat-base stands, sandbags if there is any wind

Steps

  1. Build the frame

Assemble it flat on the floor, then stand it. Make sure the corners are square before the cover goes on.

  2. Pull the cover on corner by corner

Opposite corners first so the tension is even. Work the seams to the edges.

  3. Steam it on the frame

Top to bottom, close to the fabric. Wrinkles that survive the steamer survive the photo.

  4. Square it to the room

Straight to the wall, level top edge, centered on the booth.

  5. Corner check

One test shot at the real mark. If a bottom corner reads gray, zoom in a touch or bring the light angle across.

What goes wrong

  • Packing the wrong cover for the frame in the van.
  • Steaming it folded, then stretching it. Steam it stretched.
  • Shooting wide enough to show the frame edge.
