What we did

At Autodesk University 2023, Autodesk's Media & Entertainment team brought RADiCAL, the AI motion-capture company, to the show floor to drive characters in Maya live. We built the part guests took home: the video.

How it worked

RADiCAL tracked each guest's movement and drove a character in Maya in real time. The rendering ran on a Silverdraft workstation, a machine built for exactly that kind of load.

Our capture computer recorded two feeds at once, the guest on camera and the Maya screen with their character, added an Autodesk and RADiCAL end card, and emailed each guest their clip. The sign-up form carried the opt-in Autodesk's legal team wrote for sharing on social, and after the show we kept only the videos from guests who opted in.

The numbers

223 videos in three days: 91 on Monday, November 13, 98 on Tuesday and 34 on Wednesday.

The rest of AU 2023

The same week we ran the beam illusion photo op for Autodesk Construction Cloud and roaming photos at the VIP Party and the ACC internal celebration. That's in the AU 2023 recap. A year later the same Media & Entertainment team brought us back for the Wonder Dynamics red carpet at AU 2024. Our first AU was 2022 in New Orleans.
