Roaming Photographer

Work the room. Posed groups with flash, delivered to guests in real time. We book it and handle the admin; you show up and shoot.

Where
Weddings, galas, and corporate events across Michigan, plus travel events.
When
Evenings and weekends, 3-hour minimums and up.

What you’ll do

  • Make the rounds, invite groups, pose them quickly, shoot with on-camera or off-camera flash.
  • Deliver as you go. Guests get their photos on their phone before the night ends.
  • Read the room: when to shoot, when to step back, when to disappear.
  • Dress like a guest. Weddings are black tie unless told otherwise. For guys: velvet jacket, white shirt, bow tie, black dress shoes, and properly fitting clothes.
  • Represent Mammoth on site. If a guest asks, you freelance, and this kind of work runs through Mammoth.

Who you are

  • Great with people. You approach strangers with good energy and they like you for it.
  • Confident with flash and camera settings. Clean, consistent photos, no editing needed.
  • Experienced. You’ve done this before at real events.

Not for you if

  • You wait for moments instead of making them.
  • You need a second person to feel comfortable in a crowd.

What it pays

  • $400 for 3 hours of shooting time.
  • Driving to events: $25/hr plus fuel. Overnights: lodging booked for you, meals reimbursed.
  • Longer nights quoted per event. Agreed in writing before every event.

How hiring works

The full process
  1. Step 1

    Apply

Fill out the short form on the role you want. Tell us where you’re based, when you’re available, and what you do for fun. Photographers: send your work. We reply to every applicant.

  2. Step 2

    Phone screen

A real conversation, not a script. What do you do now and why? Why us? When are you available, and how far will you travel?

  3. Step 3

    References

If we like the conversation we ask for three references from current or past coworkers, and we actually call them: what was it like to work with you, and would they hire you again?

  4. Step 4

    Offer in writing

Role, responsibilities, and pay rate, in writing.

  5. Step 5

    Onboarding and training

Paid training: the videos, a quiz and a hands-on day at the studio. You read and sign The Standard before your first event.

  6. Step 6

    Shadow an event

Work an event as an apprentice.

  7. Step 7

    Work

    First event, then the next.
